“Snowy Refuge”

Snowy Refuge emerged in the quiet moments following the capture of Bayou Blue, along the same shoreline in Oyster Bayou behind the Beauvoir estate in Biloxi, Mississippi. As the light settled and the water stilled, a pair of snowy egrets revealed themselves along the bank, moving with a quiet elegance that demanded attention.

Drawn back into the water once more, the approach remained patient and deliberate. From that still vantage point, their behavior unfolded, measured steps, focused movement, and the precision of their hunt as they worked the shoreline. Their feathers carried a softness that contrasted their intent, creating a balance between grace and purpose.

Designed as a companion piece, Snowy Refuge forms a diptych with Bayou Blue. Together, the works are connected not only in subject, but in place, with shared elements of oak-lined shores, hanging Spanish moss, and blooming magnolias that root both pieces in the same Southern landscape.
